June 14th, we host a program in conjunction with the Tioga Central School District students celebrating the American Flag.
This year, 2014, a local Girl Scout troop took over the coordination of the ceremony as part of their Silver Award project. This year we set a record for the number of student participation. 402 students from pre-k through 8th grade either made art projects or wrote an essay. The honorees from each class were awarded with a $5 gift certificate from Dad's Ice Cream. There was also a record number of attendees. Over 100 parents, teachers, friends, and family came to support our students. The Boy Scouts led us in the The Pledge of Allegiance and then along with the Girl Scouts led us in singing God Bless America. The 6th grade band led by Paula Hagerich played You're A Grand Old Flag. A cake donated by Price Chopper was served by the Scouts.
We would like to thank Barbara Crannell from being our emcee, Newell Butler for providing the welcome, and Pastor Bill Prentice for doing the invocation. We would especially like to thank the Tioga Central School teachers who encouraged their students to take part in this important recognition of our flag and its meaning.
